Bee-U’s Urban Beekeeping Fellowship provides people aged 16-24 with paid hands-on training in beekeeping, leadership, and environmental advocacy. Urban Beekeeping Fellows learn the basic skills of beekeeping, are responsible for maintaining beehives, will explore contemporary environmental issues, and engage with Staten Island’s natural environments.

DOE STEM Matters Urban Ecobuilders Camp
(Collaboration with MakerSpace NYC)

Students spend the DOE STEM Matters Urban Ecobuilders Spring Break Camp learning about our urban ecosystem and the plants, insects, and animals that live in New York City. Students participate in hands-on projects such as building native bee and pollinator habitats, birdhouses, making useful household and beauty products from beeswax and other natural ingredients, and much more. Guest beekeepers and urban naturalists join the Camp to demonstrate how they care for the bees and extract honey and wax from the hives that we have on our Makerpark site. During the Spring Break Camp, bees are in hibernation and students will not have contact with actual bees. We spend time indoors and outdoors learning about ways in which we can all care for our urban plants and animals that help make our city better.
