DOE STEM Matters Urban Ecobuilders Camp

In collaboration with MakerSpace NYC, the STEM Matters Urban Ecobuilders Camp is a week long camp for students in grades 6 - 8 to learn about our urban ecosystem and the plants, insects, and animals that live in New York City.

Program Description

The DOE STEM Matters Urban Ecobuilders Camp is a week-long camp for middle school students. Students will participate in hands-on projects such as building native bee and pollinator habitats, birdhouses, making useful household and beauty products from beeswax and other natural ingredients, and much more. Guest beekeepers and urban naturalists will join us to demonstrate how they care for the bees and extract honey and wax from the hives that we have on our Makerpark site.

Program Qualifications

  • Student in grades 6 - 8

  • Available from April 22 - 26, 2023 from 9 AM - 3 PM

  • Interest in urban agriculture, beekeeping, gardening, and environmental sustainability
